Do you want to increase your knowledge about HIV with a focus on your experiences as a person with a migration background? Do you want to meet others with similar experiences or dive deeper into topics from a global majority perspective? Then Roots 2026 is for you!
Warmly welcome to our one-day forum Roots, a space where we explore how migration, healthcare and social structures are interconnected, while strengthening rights, access to
care, and community.
This lecture will explore how colonial structures and racism continue to shape media narratives, healthcare systems, and public perceptions of racialized communities, migrants, and people living with HIV. Through a decolonial lens, the session will examine the impact of stereotypes, stigma, representation, and the “colonial gaze,” while also highlighting resistance, dignity, healing, and community empowerment.
The lecture will be held by Malcolm Jallow who is the Founder and chair of Afrosvvenskarnas forum för rättvisa (The Pan-African movement for Justice). He is one of the most recognised human rights advocates in Europe. He has worked extensively on issues related to racism, afrophobia, human rights, decolonial perspectives, representation, and social justice at local, national, and international levels. Malcolm is a former member and general rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on combating racism and intolerance and is widely recognized for his advocacy for people of African descent in Europe.
