Gittan Klemetsrud is a Swedish born cinematic photographer and visual storyteller, whose work is deeply inspired by the Nordic landscape, natural light, and the emotional connection between people and nature. Born and raised in Ludvika, Sweden, Gittan developed an early love for the outdoors through hiking and camping in the forests and wilderness of Scandinavia. Experiences that continue to shape the atmosphere and soul of her photography today.
After spending many years in Canada, particularly on Vancouver Island and along the rugged west coast, her artistic vision evolved into a distinctive blend of Nordic mood, cinematic storytelling, and documentary inspired realism. Her imagery is known for its soft atmospheric light, emotional depth, earthy tones, and immersive compositions that invite the viewer to slow down and truly feel the moment rather than simply observe it. Inspired by the quiet beauty of nature, Gittan’s work often reflects themes of stillness, resilience, solitude, and connection.
Through her photography and teaching, Gittan encourages others to move beyond automatic settings and develop a deeper understanding of light, emotion, and intentional image making. Her course Nordic Light – Beginner Course in Manual Photography is built around this philosophy, helping photographers learn the foundations of manual photography while discovering how to create authentic and atmospheric images using natural light and thoughtful composition.
Her work has been collected by the City of Port Alberni, Gallery 223, Nanaimo Regional Hospital, Black Rock Resort, BC Ferries, Art Freelance, and private collections throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. It has also been shared through international photography and art platforms, where her cinematic style and emotional storytelling continue to resonate with audiences drawn to nature, mood, and visual authenticity.
